From Camp Counselors to Forever Family

This powerful adoption story shows what God can do through your yes.

“God sets the lonely in families.” — Psalm 68:6

Stand Sunday reminds us that God’s heart beats for vulnerable children—and so does ours. As part of CityServe’s Orphan Initiative, November gives us the chance to celebrate the redemptive work God is doing through His church.

This weekend, we shared the story of the Alanis family.

They showed up to love kids for one week…
and God invited them into a story that would last a lifetime.

Stories like this remind us that God still places the lonely in families, still heals what’s been broken, and still uses ordinary people to carry extraordinary hope.

Thank you for being a church that says yes to this mission.

Thank you to every foster, adoptive, and kinship family that calls Canyon Hills their home.

Thank you to every volunteer, every camp counselor, every prayer warrior, and every giver who fuels this important work.

Scripture calls us to this kind of faith: “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.” Psalm 82:3

Standing in the gap doesn’t look the same for everyone. For some, it may mean fostering or adopting. For others, it may mean serving at camp, supporting foster families, praying faithfully, or giving so that ministries like Royal Family Kids Camp can continue.

What matters is not the size of the step—but the willingness to take one.

As you reflect on Ray and Liz’s story, we invite you to consider this simple prayer:
“Lord, how are You inviting me to stand in the gap?”

We are grateful for you, Canyon Hills. Let’s continue to be a church that takes a stand.
